Social Media or SEO - the winner is?

Like Ali versus Frazier or Eminem versus Snoop Dog, there's no real straight answer as to whether social media or Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the heavyweight champion of digital marketing.
If you want to attract online business, there's no escaping the importance of getting your website optimised for the search engines like Google and Bing.
Your website is the coalface of your business, your shop window, and should always be the primary focus of your digital marketing strategies.
That said the old-school strategy of using key words in clunky and clumsy isolation has virtually gone the way of the Dodo bird. It's ok to pay some attention to keywords, however they must be well-written and on topic and above all provide value to the reader. Otherwise eyeballs will quickly search elsewhere. Moreover it seems the boffins at Google have tweaked their algorithms to recognise quality and engaging copy so if you're not a writer, hire a journalist pronto! And be prepared to pay him or her well for her skills.
However it's also tantamount to treason and gigantic waste of money if you create great content on your website and don't share it on the likes of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram. Overtime, those that harmonise their SEO with their social media will win a bigger fan base and ultimately improve their bottom-line.
